Two Cities That Inspire

New York City is every artists paradise, from the variety of aroma's you encounter that cue a fond memory to the stimulating scenery. Ista designer Mevesh has called this metropolis her home for the past 13 years. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey the two cities have equally influenced her work as a fine jeweler. Hailing from 3 generations of artisan jewelers, the art form is literally in her blood. As a young woman she would apprentice under the keen direction of her uncle who himself was a master jeweler along with the influence of other artisans from the ancient Grand Bazaar Kapali Carsi in Istanbul. Casting, carving, melting are just a few of the many detailed techniques that she incorporates into her work today.

Every year Mevesh travels back to her place of birth, each visit unearthing a new well of inspiration. A routine trip to the local market ignites her creativity, colorful arrays of spices, textured grains and bright yellow price tags! Anatolian architecture can be seen throughout Istanbul, breathtaking details of marble and gold flowers carved on Hamam's. Hamam's are traditional ancient bath houses that are still an everyday part of life & culture in Turkey.
